Hooray!!

I'm slowly catching up on this blog! I'll get some Christmas pics and videos up soon I hope, but I took this last night and wanted to share. The girls are cracking me up!! By the time I finally got them in one place to shoot this video, they were tired, but it's still cute I think :). (Sorry about my horrid singing)!

Christmas Pics and updates!!

Well, I'll just start by saying we won't have Christmas cards this year if you are waiting for them!! Time has just slipped away from me and we never really got any great Christmas photos like I wanted. It seemed like the girls were either sick, fussy or recovering from some sort of black eye or mosquito bite to the face! We did get some pics from their daycare that they took so I scanned those in for you all to see below! Kamryn did her usual staring at the camera thing, but Kayla is finally starting to warm up to it! I didn't have time to get their hair cut so you can barely see Kayla's little face. Next year, I will be more organized!!

It's been a busy month! I finally took the girls out of daycare to help try and get them all healed up and recovered from their adenoiditis. Of course, as soon as they got home they got a cold/flu bug, which I got. They seem to be doing better and I like the nanny we have so far. She does a lot of arts and crafts with them everyday which they seem to enjoy! I hope to get them back in daycare this spring if they are better after their surgeries and I can build back up some sick leave again. (Fingers crossed)!!

The girls are so much fun to watch right now. Kayla is my little ham...she loves to smile and laugh!! She loves to play peek a boo and chase me around. She is so much fun to watch and I love her facial expressions!! Kamryn is my sweet and sensitive girl. She is always giving her "Kay-Kay" things and always trying to put her to sleep. She is also turning into the bossy one and the bully though, which is funny since she is usually so sweet! ALL day long I hear "Kay-Kay!! Kay-Kay!! NO!! Here!! Kay-Kay!!" And Kayla always follows and does what her sister says...but if she doesn't...Kamryn starts to hit and bite, so we are working on that! We are also getting into the temper tantrum phase...aye carumba!! It's so cute, but very LOUD when they both don't get what they want or are jealous of the other one for something...there is a lot of screaming, throwing things, and throwing themselves on the ground! I'm not sure how to handle all that, so I usually just walk away and leave them be till they calm down. Despite all that, they are usually the sweetest little girls and make me so happy!! (Except right now that they are fighting going to bed and I hear a lot of crying coming from their room)!! LOL.

Snot and Poop...or should it be Poop and Snot??

It has not been the most enjoyable week in the Novilla household...mainly because all of us have been sick with something or another, which leads to just plain grumpiness. Last weekend, we ventured out of the house and went to the Texas Renaissance Festival which was a LOT of fun (pictures to follow)...but not 24 hours later, Kayla started running a fever...then Kam...then the snot started flowing more freely (it had already been flowing from the last sickness), which led to much coughing and long nights...then the doctor decided to start the girls on some new antibiotic thinking that they may have a sinus infection now which is causing all the coughing and breathing problems...which led to the dreaded "D"...ugh. So between fevers, snot, coughing and "D", I've also been sick with a stomach bug and Kiko has been just hanging in there with all of this. It's been miserable. I've decided to possibly look for a live-out nanny now, a local person...so I don't have the drama of personality conflicts or homesickness or not being able to walk around in my birthday suit (just kidding on the last one...). lol. I can't afford to keep missing work when the girls are sick right now...hoping that a nanny for a few months anyway, will get me into next year and give me time to build back up my sick leave. That's the hope anyway...

The girls do seem to be enjoying daycare though and I hate to take them out of it just because they get sick...so I'm torn. It's good for them to get sick, right?? Good to build up immunities...but at the risk of not being able to pay the bills? Probably not. Argh.... Maybe we will try this school thing again next year...

Anyway, here are some cute pics from the Renaissance Festival. We didn't dress up, but the girls had fun! They had their first Shetland Pony rides (Kamryn hated, Kayla loved) and then Kayla got to ride her first Carousel (Kamryn was asleep). Can't wait for more memorable times with them!! Heading to FL next week! Our first ever plane ride...should be INTERESTING!!

Lots of stuff...

Sorry that I have been remiss in posting, but it has been a very crazy month and I haven't had much time to sit down and type. The only reason I have time today is because I was in a minor car accident earlier this week and am home recuperating! Don't worry, I am fine, just really sore!!

So the last month and a half have been...interesting...

First, our nanny decided she needed to go back home to Utah. So that left is in a lurch trying to get the girls into a daycare quickly. Fortunately, we found one that is close to my work that I liked. They have video monitoring so I can tune in anytime and see what they are up too...which is actually a bad thing for them, because Kiko calls them all the time asking questions about what they are doing, where they are, why are they crying, etc...lol. I love my over-protective hubby!

And of course, not 48 hours after starting the daycare, the girls came down with a HUGE viral illness, that kept them and me down for nearly 10 days. Then Kamryn developed an ear infection to which they put her on Amoxicillan...to which, we found out she is allergic to a week later when she was covered in HIVES!! Poor baby!! They then developed some chest congestion and coughing which wasn't going away so now they are on another antibiotic and liquid albuterol to help them and it seems to finally be working! To say it's been a stressful month is an understatement! But I think the daycare will be a great thing for them in the long run and they will learn so much more...as long as their little immune systems can hang in there!!

I don't have many new pictures to post, but will try to get some done as soon as the weather cools off some!!

Need to post more!!

I've been told that I need to post more often! Sorry about that! Things have been pretty hectic with two toddlers around the house! They are into EVERYTHING! And even though we think we are babyproofed, we really aren't!! Kamryn has figured out how to open the inside doors, so we have ordered some locks to keep them out of rooms that aren't meant for them yet!! Kayla is like the little instigator, always right behind Kamryn pointing to a door she wants opened!! The girls are also fighting more...learning to share doesn't seem to be high on their priority lists. Kamryn is the biter...she has given Kayla a few bites on her arm already. I was told that one would be the biter and the other would be the bitee...I must admit, I thought Kayla would be the biter. Kamryn is usually so sweet and gentle and loving...until it comes to a toy or something she wants...then she's a brut!!

They are both definitely beginning their terrible two's early!! Every day there is at least 3-4 temper tantrums EACH...I have to try not to laugh at the foot stomping, hand clenching, throwing themselves on the ground kicking and screaming. The other day, Kayla was stomping her feet and screaming because I wouldn't pick her up. So I started stomping my feet and screamin too. She stopped and just stared at me...and then started stomping and screaming but laughing...and Kamryn joined in...so we all just stomped our feet and screamed and laughed till they got over whatever was bugging them. Wonder how long I'll be able to pull that one off...lol.

We took the girls to Moody Gardens today to a place called Palm Beach. They had SO much fun!! Little Kayla had a smile a mile wide the whole day and just squealed and laughed so much. We were only there a couple of hours, but I don't think I've ever seen them so excited!! We're hoping to be able to get out more and more with them now that they aren't so little and fragile!! It's about time!! This time last year they were still so tiny, so it feels great to be able to take them out and enjoy life one little smile at a time!! Here are some pictures! Enjoy!

Catching up!

Sorry I haven't posted in so long! There really hasn't been much to report though so that is a good thing I guess! The girls are doing so well! Just walking and talking their own little thing. They are so much fun to watch and I'll post a few videos for you to see below. The girls got their first hair trims this weekend! Thank goodness my next door neighbor is also my hair stylist! She and her daughter just popped over Friday night and cut the girls little shaggy bangs (I hated to see them go)! They look OLDER now! And MORE Asian!!! Kiko calls them his little China Dolls now! LOL. I hated having bangs when I was little so I don't think they will have them long, I hope to grow them out soon! We also have a new nanny (again)!! Carly is here from Utah and she is great so far! The girls have warmed up to her already and she seems to fit in very well with our family! I LOVE her enthusiasm and willingess to learn! She also is very easy to get along with so I think she's going to be great! The plan is for her to stay a year with us, but I'm hoping for two!!! The girls have their 18 month doctor visit in a week so I'll have some more stats on them after that! Until then, enjoy the videos!

Been a long time!

I just realized that I haven't posted in a really long time!! I hope some of you are still following us!! I've been so busy now with two little TODDLERS that the time just slips away from me!! I'm hoping for a quiet night tonight so we'll see!

Not much to report on the girls other than just watching them grow and get their own little personalities! It's amazing how completely DIFFERENT they are from each other!! Kamryn is like my little DRAMA queen and peacemaker! Kayla is my little daredevil and risk taker!! BOTH are showing some signs that the "TERRIBLE TWO's" will be upon us before we know it!! When one has a toy the other wants, there is a lot of screaming, hitting, hair pulling and temper tantrums!! Usually it's Kayla being the more aggressive...I think because she's smaller and fiestier!! Kamryn is usually the one who tries to calm Kayla down if she is upset, will go and bring her a pacifier or pat her on the back...it's so sweet! Kamryn will also always bend over and kiss Kayla and give her hugs! Kayla just knocks her down or runs away. LOL. It's really cute to watch, but amazing how different they are already!!

The girls will be 17 months old next week and I can hardly believe it!! They are growing up so fast!! I don't have any growth stats on them until next month though!!

That's about it! See, you haven't missed much! We will be having our new Live-in nanny, Carly, starting at the end of the month!! We can't wait for her to get here!! She is another Utah girl (LOVE them UTAH girls!!)! We hope she will be with us for a LONG time!! I'm not getting another nanny if this doesn't work out, but I think she's going to be great!!

Just wanted to post a quick THANK YOU to all of you who donated to our March of Dimes March for Babies walk!! Next year I hope to drum up even more support and have even more walkers and donations! We had a HUGE turnout and I heard that Houston had the largest number of walkers in the country and raised over 3 MILLION DOLLARS to help fight premature births!! Amazing!! We had a FABULOUS time and the weather was absolutely perfect for the walk! The girls were so excited to get out of the house and do something different that they laughed and giggled almost the whole way through! They rode in their stroller most of the time, but we carried them part of the way too and they would wave to all the walkers and smile at everyone. Just a great day all around! More pics and the latest...

I'll get to the pics in a second. Last week was very sad here...we had to say goodbye to our sweet "Bri-Bri". Brianna was the girls nanny for almost nine months and she had to return home to Utah to help take care of some family issues. The girls miss her I can tell. We all miss her. She really took care of them and had this place running pretty smoothly! I secretly hope that she will come back very soon, if nothing else to visit! We have a new summer nanny until August, her name is Kim...yes, we have an entire house FULL of K-names. LOL. She's been here a week and so far the girls seem to have adjusted and she hasn't run off crying yet so I think she'll be ok for the rest of the summer! It's always hard having to train a new person into the routine and fitting them into our family, but she's always got a smile on her face and ready and eager to do whatever it takes! And she can put up with my crazy requirements...so she's doing great so far!!
Besides that, it's been pretty quiet around here...well, except for Kayla. She has developed quite the set of lungs and is eager to show us how well they work. She's also got quite the temper!! I didn't think tantrums were supposed to start this early...but BOY...payback's a...well, you know. You can't really get mad at her, kicking and screaming and turning beet red while clinching her fists...she's just too darn cute while she does it. Funny story...last night, Kay was pitching a FIT and I wasn't having it, so I left her to do her screaming and fit throwing, when I came back in the room, Kamryn was sitting next to her on the floor patting Kayla on the back and talking to her as if to say it was going to be ok. Didn't seem to console Kay too much...but it made me stop and smile. I remembered back to being a little kid and being really upset with my parents and crying in my room and wishing I had a sister there to hug me and let me just "vent"!! It made me smile that Kamryn was trying to console her sister in her own way and I know that they will be the best of friends...once they figure out how to quit biting and hitting each other :). LOL. Now...on to some more pics!! These are the continuation shots from their 15 month shoot with Christy. These aren't all of them, but they still don't smile on command, so these are the cutest ones anyway!

Giggling Babies!

I forgot to post this a while back! This is kind of a long video, but I think it's pretty cute (I'm biased though). Make sure your speakers are up, so you can hear all the giggling! This was about two weeks ago...they are now walking everywhere now and prefer not to crawl at all! Kayla gets so excited walking that she tries to run and then falls down but they are just too stinking cute to watch!! Will be posting some new pics in the next few weeks too so stay tuned!

15 months!!

Wow! I can't believe my little girls are 15 months old today!!! It's all just going by so FAST!! They are walking up a storm now and have their own little twin language going on. LOL. We are also seeing a lot more of their personalities and some baby temper tantrums happening! It's pretty funny actually...at least until the hitting starts. Kamryn is my more mellow child, but definitely the DRAMA QUEEN!!! She bumps her head and it's like the end of the world!! Kayla has the temper but is my more rough and tumble baby. They are starting to fight over toys more now and hit/pull hair...which I expected to start happening!! They BOTH will throw little tantrums and clench their fists and turn bright red screaming...which is pretty humorous but REALLY LOUD!!! Not so sure I'm looking forward to the terrible 2's and 3's!!

We had some photos taken yesterday of the girls since it's been a while! I don't have all of them yet, but stay tuned!! Here are some FANTASTIC ones we got for our annual Crawfish Boil invitations!! I just have to smile everytime I look at these!

Baby Pinata!

I just have to post this picture because it's just too funny not too. We were at an Easter party this weekend and our friend had a pinata. Kayla saw all the kids around it and she made a bee-line for the thing. I mean, she grabbed my hands and started walking/pulling me over there. She marched right past the kids and wanted the stick! It was so funny! I couldn't believe that she not only held onto this stick...which was like, twice the size of her...but she tried to swing at the pinata!! Then she fell...which she didn't like very much...poor baby!

I've had an inkling since the day they were born that Kam would be my musical/dancer baby and Kay would be my rough and tumble/gymnastics baby. They are starting to prove me right! Kamryn LOVES music...she will stop whatever she is doing if she hears a song she likes and we finally caught her on tape! Too cute! (Make sure you've got the volume up!)

TWO walking babies!!!

Well...it's official! Kayla is a TODDLER!! And she's not just two-stepping at a time...she's walking the full length of the house...unassisted!! Her sister can't even do that! Of course, Kamryn, not to be outdone, is able to get from crawling to standing on her own in the middle of the room now, which Kayla can't do yet. So I'm so proud of my two little girls!!! And in true TWIN fashion...I stood them both up, pointed in the same direction and said GO...and they went in opposite directions. Yes, I believe this is a sign of things to come for the Novilla girls!! But I love every second of it!!!

Sadness and happiness...

This week has been an emotional one for me. I'm filled with happiness that my girls are growing up and starting to walk. I'm also sad about it. I'm sad about my nanny, Bri leaving us...but I'm filled with happiness that I've found not one, not two, but THREE potential nannies to come join our family. Of course, I need to make a decision about which one...which will make me sad again. **sigh**

But I think the saddest thing that I've had to endure this week was hearing about a friend, and fellow clinical trial participant, who lost her husband suddenly this week. She is only 32 with twin girls who are only a month younger than mine. I can't even wrap my arms or head around the pain she must be feeling. When I heard the news, I cried. When I read her posts on FB, I cry. I wish I could help her, but I know my place is one of encouragement and support from a distance...electronically...as it always has been. It's funny how you learn to lean on people you have never met before via the internet. When I learned of our fertility problems, I joined a Fertility support group...and there I met the most amazing group of women, including Courtney. A few I have met, others only via webcam, most never...but we all have a bond together and when one hurts...we ALL hurt. I know she reads my blog, and I know she reads my emails and I just want her to know that I am surrounding her with the biggest cyber hugs I can. Please pray for Courntey and her girls and may she know that she has friends she has never even met surrounding her with love and prayers.

Houston...we have a toddler...

Yep! Kamryn took her very first steps all by herself this weekend! That first one was a doozy! Her eyes got as big as saucers when she did it! From that point on, she's been popping up and trying to take more and more steps. She took about 6 steps last night and I have no doubt by the time I get home from work today she will be going further! Kayla is also very close to walking...while all the ooo'ing and aaaah'ing was going on for Kamryn, I glanced over at Kayla who was watching her "little" sister and she was just standing there, not holding anything as if to say..."well, look at me!!! I can stand by myself too!!!". I cried. My babies are going to be little people soon and I'm so sad, yet very happy! I can't wait to just walk with them hand in hand and not have to choose which baby I have to carry! We tried to get video, but didn't get it yet. Will post it soon. I also have a video of them cracking each other up while playing. I will post that soon too!

The Nanny Hunt...

Well, all good things must come to an end, right?? Many of you know or have heard me mention our nanny Brianna. Well, unfortunately, she has to return to Utah for some personal family reasons. We are very sad. If the girls knew she was leaving, they also would be very sad. They just love her to death and she loves them. I love listening to her read them stories...it makes me want to go in there and sit and listen too! Anyway, so the hunt is on...AGAIN...for another live-in nanny. Some may wonder why we choose to stick with a nanny instead of placing them in daycare. Well, it all started because they were born so early and I didn't want them being exposed to all the daycare germs given their early arrival into this world. Then it became, I didn't want to put them in during RSV season either. Now, I just love the interaction the girls get by having one person focus on them. They are missing out on some social interaction though I think, so I plan to enroll them in a Mother's Day Out program this fall where they will get more interaction with other children without throwing them into daycare full time. Then once they are used to that, we will up the MDO to four days a week or maybe by that time, I will be ready for daycare. Maybe. Sooo...until then, I'm back to the nanny hunt, hoping to find another Brianna! Wish me luck...need to find someone QUICK!

Prayers for my friend Janice

I haven't posted about my friend Janice yet, though I have wanted too many times. Some things just seem so personal. Yet, as I sit here praying for her today, I wanted all of my blogger friends and family to join me as I know there is much power in prayer. A little history...

I met Janice online on a fertility forum. We were both having troubles getting pregnant and pursuing IVF. We were both about to start our treatments and joined what was called the March IVF group. There we made many, many wonderful friends...most of whom we have never met. Many are my friends here on this blog! Janice and I always had a special bond when we talked on the forum, we were both from TX, we both worked for the government, we both were half Chinese/half white!! LOL. When I found out about the IVF clinical trial at my center, I let the board know and Janice (who lives in Lubbock, TX), Melanee (who lives in Utah) and Kari (who lives in KS) quickly enrolled with me. From there we were on the IVF roller coaster together!! We all became pregnant from the trial...3 of us with twin girls and Janice with one little boy, named Jackson. Jackson would be his mom's miracle in more than one way.

While Janice was pregnant with Jackson, she began having some health problems. I won't even pretend to try and explain what those were, but suffice it to say, they saw some spots on her liver during some testing. Since she was pregnant, they were unable to do much about it so they made an appointment for her to come back to investigate 6 weeks after Jackson was born. Six weeks later, Janice heard the devastating news. She had Stage IV colon cancer that had spread to her liver. She was a year younger than me, with a six week old newborn at home. I had just had my twins when I heard the news...to say I was heartbroken for her is an understatement. I think I cried for two days straight for her...having just lost my mother two years earlier from lung cancer, I couldn't imagine not being there for my children. However, little Jackson became his mother's hero and had she not been pregnant, she likely would not have known she even had this terrible disease and she vowed to fight like she had never fought before.

From her past experience with the IVF clinical trial, she found another clinical trial for her type of cancer based out of NYC Sloan Kettering. She and her husband would make the difficult decisions to leave their beloved son to fly back and forth from TX to NY for surgeries, chemo treatments, consultations, etc. The strength that they have as a husband and wife and as a family to this day astounds me. To go through what she has been through and to have a husband like Bruce with her every step of the way is such a blessing in and of itself.

Today, Janice is going through her third and hopefully FINAL surgery. It will be to remove her left liver lobe, which is the last remaining active part of the disease. After this surgery, the prayer is that she will be NED (No Evidence of Disease). She found out just over a year ago that she had Stage IV cancer and to go from that to NED would truly be a miracle. Please join me in saying more prayers for Janice and her family that she will in fact be NED very soon so she can finally relax and just be a "mom" to her precious Jackson and watch him grow old. Edited to add: Janice's surgery went well and all evidence of tumors have been removed!! Now the healing! Please continue to keep her and her family in your thoughts and prayers!

Please help!

Many, if not all of you, have heard of the March of Dimes, but do you really know what they do?? This is a wonderful organization "dedicated to improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature births and infant mortality". It was not until my daughters were born 8.5 weeks premature and spent nearly four months in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit that I truly understood the importance of the March of Dimes. Without those donations, my children might not be with us today. I was unable to walk in last year's March of Dimes Walk for Babies as one of my girls was still in the NICU and one was home and too young to go out. WE WILL BE WALKING THIS YEAR AND EVERY YEAR AFTER. Our friends have created a team and they are walking in HONOR OF KAYLA AND KAMRYN and we each have individual goals to reach. Crawling Babies!!

Remember when I wrote earlier that Kamryn wasn't wanting to crawl or pull up much?!?! Yeah...scratch that. LOL. She is everywhere! I think she started the day ECI came over and hasn't stopped. It's so much fun with them being so much more mobile and also more stressful...especially when they are off in different directions! We converted my office into their playroom which is a blessing! We can plop them in there, we know they are safe and they have a blast going from one toy to the next. They love to "walk" with their little walker toys and will giggle and laugh at each other as they go across the room. Kayla is trying to let go of things as she is standing and can stand for a few seconds before falling so I think she will be the first walker, but Kamryn is usually right there with her. I think Kam is just more timid than Kayla so she's more conservative in her movements...but when she sees Kayla zipping around and doing things, she usually gets over her fears (especially with some motivational ga-ga's from Kayla)! I'll try to get some pics posted of them zooming around soon! Hard to catch them in the same place though!

March of Dimes March for Babies!

Kiko and I have joined up with our friends to walk with a team in the March of Dimes March for Babies Fundraiser!!! Our team is dedicated to Kayla and Kamryn!! Since our little girls were born prematurely by 8.5 weeks, we have a very special place in our heart for this event now more than ever. Without the March of Dimes, many premature babies wouldn't have the chances that they have now. Please consider donating to our team! My personal goal that I've given myself is $1500...though I know that we can do much better than that!! The walk will take place April 25 at the University of Houston Robertson Stadium. First Year Checkup!

Today was the girls 1 year checkup with their pediatrician and it was both stressful and wonderful!! The girls are weighing in at 20 lbs and "almost 17 lbs"! Kamryn can now ride forward facing in a big girls car seat!! Kayla has a little longer to go till she can switch...but now they can face each other when they are riding :). They got their immunization shots and some blood drawn too which was not fun for either of us. Kamryn is not feeling well...I think her molars are starting to come in and really bugging her. She was up most of the night and very whiney...which she never is...so I'm hoping some Motrin will help her out tonight. The doctor was so pleased with their progress...she said Kamryn still has a "big head" so we're going to keep watching it and if she doesn't meet her developmental milestones in 3 months and her head continues to be large (90th percentile) she will order some more tests and a consult with a neurologist just to be sure. We have monthly visits from ECI (Early Childhood Intervention) and they should be by this week to check out her development some too. She's not really wanting to crawl or pull up which is a little worrisome since Kayla is all over the place...but she's trying. It's so cute to watch them crawl around the house...Kayla is so fast, but she will stop and wait for Kamryn to catch up to her and they both giggle while they do it! I can almost see Kayla encouraging Kamryn when she does this...she'll circle around Kam while waiting for her and they both smile and laugh. It just warms my heart to watch these two beautiful girls!!

HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY!!!

Today was our baby girls first birthday!! I can't believe it's been a year already! I only cried once! LOL. They had a great day today with a lot of friends and family sharing the day with us!! We had a LADYBUG theme for the party and the girls were so cute in their little matching "ladybug" dresses and "ladybug" cakes! **Note to mommy...black and red icing makes for VERY messy babies!!!!** Here are a few pictures...sorry they are dark :(.
