Well Kayla continues to keep us guessing!! Just when I was convinced we would have to do the GJ tube surgery, she started eating like a champ...I'd never seen her eat so well! And it showed, at yesterday's Dr's appointment, she had gained 4 oz in 4 days which is fantastic! She's also grown 1/4". Then she hit a wall...not literally...but last night and this morning she would not eat very well. The feedings were back to the usual screaming and arching, refluxing up into her nose so she couldn't breathe. Poor thing was really stressing me out (and herself). It was really hard holding her upright for hours on end so she could breathe and be calm. So now I don't know what to do about the surgery. Part of me wants to go ahead with it because I truly think it will help her grow and gain weight, which is what she desperately needs right now to outgrow this reflux. The other part of me doesn't want to subject her to the surgery if it isn't absolutely necessary (i.e. she starts losing weight and not eating completely). My fear is that she will learn to hate the bottle because it causes so much pain and we'll really have problems. At least if we did the surgery now (while she still is ok with the bottle), we can continue to feed her by mouth and only use the tube at night or when she can't finish her minimum required feeding.
Kamryn is doing great, just gaining weight and being a pretty happy baby. She's so good right now because with all of Kayla's fussy episodes, Kamryn is usually pretty content sitting in a bouncy seat watching mommy walk around trying to calm Kayla down. Every once in a while she will start sympathy crying and then it's a real trick to calm them both down. I think she may be getting sick though...she's started coughing lately and sounding congested. I'm trying to get her into the doctor this week to make sure she doesn't have an ear infection or something. She was pretty cranky last night and didn't sleep very well, so hopefully it's something simple.
I took some great pics of the girls playing yesterday but I haven't had the time to upload them yet...hopefully I will get to them tonight!
